Our interactive device for Michelin
A transportable and scalable phygital experience
IN 2021, MICHELIN ANNOUNCED ITS AMBITION TO USE 100% SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS (BIO-BASED OR RECYCLED) IN ALL ITS TIRES BY 2050. THEY AIM TO ACHIEVE A TARGET OF 40% SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE MICHELIN GROUP BY 2030.
The purpose of this interactive experience
Michelin is committed to ensuring that all tire components are sustainable. To achieve this, the Group relies on both its technological readiness in the field of materials and on innovative and pioneering technology partners.
Michelin wanted to illustrate the processes that enable everyday waste to be transformed into raw materials for use in the production of new objects, including tires.
The challenges
First, creating a device capable of illustrating the processes of new technologies in the recycling of materials, explaining them simply and making them accessible to all.
Secondly, offering a playful and interactive experience leading to the discovery and retention of “technical” information.
Thirdly, facilitating the logistics and implementation of the interactive system while offering durability for long-term use.
Lastly, optimizing the content production and providing continuous updates of this content in line with the evolution of the technologies illustrated.
Our mission
TO DESIGN A TRANSPORTABLE AND SCALABLE COMMUNICATION DEVICE
Michelin wants to be able to showcase its product demonstrator at various events around the world. We therefore created a scalable and transportable device that allows the public to discover and understand Michelin’s full-on commitment to the research and integration of sustainable materials..
Our interactive display was designed for easy logistics and implementation thanks to an all-in-one flight case. It provides sturdy protection to ensure the product’s long-term use by using specific materials for added durability. To keep the set-up process simple, only one electrical connection is required which is done via an extension cord available at the back of the device. Finally, the front compartment allows for the interaction and storage of connected products.
STIMULATE INTEREST AND EMOTION
WITH A PHYGITAL AND SENSORIAL COMMUNICATION DEVICE
The interactive system provides a real insight into Michelin’s activities in the field of sustainable materials. The phygital device perfectly illustrates, via its content, design and storytelling, how new technologies can recycle materials.
The public actively discovers and manipulates connected physical objects such as materials found in everyday waste or biomass: used tires, plastic bottles, yogurt pots, wood chips etc… These connected objects can then become virtual and trigger specific scenarios showing the recycling process specific to each object. The messages that accompany each scenario help to understand how waste can be transformed into raw materials for the production of new objects.
In addition to the fun aspect of the experience, using the sense of touch helps the user retain more information
OPTIMIZATION
THE CONTENT PRODUCTION FOR THIS INTERACTIVE DEVICE
“It’s not an easy task making technical content, rich in the concepts of chemistry and physics, attractive & accessible, and yet, thanks to close collaboration with the SoWhen? team, we were able to achieve remarkable results. We see it every time we use the Regen'Lab and with all types of audiences: people are amazed, surprised to have so easily understood our advanced content around our actions on sustainability. Of course, we also went through some difficult moments during the implementation of this project, but we always found unfailing support from the SoWhen? team, who accompanied us both throughout the whole project, and afterwards, with great initiative in proposals, availability and optimism. We're already working on the next updates and especially the translation of the product demonstrator into a new language... the Regen'Lab is a definite success 🙂 "
