Launch of the TV series WAR OF THE WORLDS on Canal+

Phygital experience with Augmented Reality

CREATION OF AN IMMERSIVE EXPERIENCE IN PARIS’ GARE DU NORD STATION

The Project

Project name: Launch of Canal+’s War of the Worlds

Partners: MEDIATRANSPORTS, Havas Media Group, Boys in the Wood

Release date: October 2019

Format: An immersive phygital device with Augmented Reality

Project Objective

To offer passing commuters of the Gare du Nord in Paris an immersive experience in the universe of Canal+’s “War of the Worlds” TV series.

“Imagine yourself right here right now as the sole survivor in this completely destroyed station, condemned to survive…”

Challenges

  • Providing a finished product in line with the TV series all in a context of confidentiality and limited image availability.

  • Adapting to a busy location and finding ways of arousing curiosity in a natural way.

  • Creating a device with precise installation measurements in a highly regulated location.

Our mission

To attract passers-by in an environment (train station) that already triggers a lot of people’s senses, and then to immerse them in another reality, that of the train station destroyed by extraterrestrial attacks.

How did it work?

The stele was the first point of contact, an element of curiosity for passers-by.

Once the person was in front of it, they would find themselves displayed on the screen until their image blurred and transformed, in the same way as in the TV series.

Thanks to Augmented Reality, we were able to project their own image into a modified station setting made with CGI (computer generated images).
