SoWhen? carried out the motion capture of Livi, the 100% virtual muse of LVMH.

We brought life to LVMH's avatar, Livi, via motion capture and Unreal Engine rendering.

Objectives

LVMH wanted to unveil its new 100% virtual muse, Livi, for the VivaTech 2022 trade show.

As the new face of LVMH’s technological innovation, Livi spoke before, during and after the show via videos on social media, websites and the LVMH stand.

To this end, the SPOA agency asked SoWhen? to participate in this adventure by bringing Livi to life.

The challenges

To achieve the first set of motion capture and its rendering in less than 24 hours.

To achieve results in line with the global image of LVMH and the SPOA’s demands in a very short timeframe.

To adapt to the requirements of Livi’s outfit (large and flowing clothes, loose hair…) and create the most accurate motion animation possible within these limitations.

To set up a system in our virtual production studio, that would allow everyone (the actress, SPOA and LVMH) to experience this motion capture in a more natural way by displaying a real-time visualization of Livi the 3D avatar and her environment.

Our mission

SOWHEN? PERFORMED AND RENDERED ALL THE MOTION CAPTURE OF LIVI

IN UNREAL ENGINE

We scheduled different sessions in our virtual production studio to achieve the motion capture of Livi’s speeches.

Thanks to our setup and work process we were able to let Jeannette (the actress) see herself talk as Livi. SPOA & LVMH could also observe the 3D render live on set.

To get the best out of the motion capture we prepared different angles of view and captured as much data as possible: body, hands, fingers and face motion capture to convey a full range of emotions. Once we processed all these details, we were able to produce a video that was true to the actress’s movements.

Challenge: To achieve more natural movement, in other words a result closer to physical reality, we pushed the rendering of the hair and clothing dynamics. These dynamic elements work to anchor Livi and the audience further into reality.

Inertial motion capture suit used: “Perception Neuron”. Rendering with Unreal Engine 4.27.

WHEN BERNARD ARNAULT MET LIVI

IN THE METAVERSE:

“Just back from Vivatech and I can tell you that the public’s enthusiasm for Livi was huge! Each time Livi spoke from her virtual apartment which was broadcast to the 600m² stand for the luxury group LVMH (“LVMH apartment”), the room was full, with nowhere to move!”

The interviews with experts on the subjects of blockchains, NFTs and metaverses for the group’s luxury brands brought together as many people as you could possibly fit in LVMH’s stand at VivaTech.

Then came the moment for the LVMH Innovation Awards for start-ups. Livi co-hosted the ceremony blending the dimensions of our two worlds, the physical and the virtual, with guests appearing one after the other as if by magic.

It was amazing to see Bernard Arnault enter this “microverse” to speak with her and then come out and be on stage to deliver his speech to the audience and launch the Innovation Awards ceremony.
